End of year round-up from the team at Hattiers Rum
With the year wrapping up, it’s a great time to look back at what we’ve achieved and get ready for what’s next. 2024 has been a busy one for Hattiers Rum! Even though the industry and the UK faced some tough times, it’s been an exciting ride for us as we gear up for what’s shaping up to be a huge year in 2025.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your custom and support this year and hope that you enjoy reading about some of our highlights from this year.
The Sustainable Drinks Cabinet
During March each year, B Corp certified businesses across the globe celebrate B Corp Month and we were were proud to once again gather sustainable drinks brands as a collective and this year was bigger than ever with 15 B Corp drinks brands joining the group for a month-long pop-up aptly named the 'On Purpose Bar'.
We were proud to gather all fifteen sustainable drinks brands of the 'On Purpose' B Corp Bar during our closing event as a collective to share stories, insights and learnings as part of #BCorpMonth. It was a truly stand-out event for press, drinks writers, trade and guests and it was inspiring to learn, connect and feel the buzz around the room.
Read the full story here and keep an eye out for news on what we have planned as a collective next year.
International Women's Day
We also celebrated some of the incredible women who make up the driving force of Hattiers for International Women's Day on 8th March.
36 Months of Ecologi
May marked 36 months of our partnership with fellow B Corp organisation Ecologi who plant trees around the world for future carbon capture and fund quantifiable Gold Standard certified climate crisis solutions that provide immediate solutions, using a funding strategy guided by the Climate Committee following Project Drawdown framework.
Beyond our existing targets for carbon reduction we have supported the prevention of187.4 tCO2e from being emitted through 43 verified carbon avoidance projects and funded the planting of 3,233trees across 19 projects. Take a look at the projects funded by Hattiers in more detail here.
ISPS Handa Celebrity Golf Classic
In May Hattiers supported this year's ISPS Handa Celebrity Golf Classic. Hosted by Mike and Zara Tindall and looking pretty in pink, much fun was had by over 100 VIP guests who sipped Hattiers cocktails whilst teeing off at hole one of the famous Brabazon course at The Belfry Hotel and Resort, followed by a dinner and charity auction that went late into the night.
The 11th Celebrity Golf Classic was a resounding success, with the event raising over £500,000 for two worthwhile causes, the Matt Hampson Foundation and Cure Parkinson’s,
Hattiers are proud to have been a key sponsor for the third year running and we are very much looking forward to participating again next year.
Sitwell Supper Club With Chef April Jackson
Hattiers co-hosted a stunning supper club with William Sitwell and Brixton based Masterchef finalist chef April Jackson for an evening of elevated Jamaican flavours and delicious Hattiers Rum cocktails.
The Devil Wears Prada - RUMWAY Launch
Gird your loins! The Devil Wears Prada, a new musical, strutted into Plymouth for an exclusive pre-West End season and Hattiers were proud to launch the new RUMWAY cocktail for theatre guests to enjoy pre-show at Theatre Royal Plymouth.
The Devil Wears Prada is a new musical based on the blockbuster film and bestselling novel and features an original score by music legend Sir Elton John, lyrics by Shaina Taub, a book by Kate Wetherhead and direction & choreography by 3-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde, Pretty Woman, Hairspray).
Described as a ‘fresh and fruity aged rum cocktail with a devilish kick’, the star ingredient of the ‘RUMWAY’ cocktail is Hattiers’ Egremont, a blend of four cask-aged rums handpicked from across the Caribbean and Central America, paired with pure soft Dartmoor spring water. To complement our premium rum, Hattiers chose to partner with fellow Devon brand Luscombe Drinks, known for their high-quality, great-tasting soft drinks. Luscombe’s dedication to crafting beverages from the finest organic ingredients makes their Hot Ginger Beer and Raspberry Crush perfect mixers for the ‘RUMWAY’ cocktail.
From Land to Sea...British Classic Week
In its 21st year, British Classic Week attracted over 40 classic sailing and motor yachts from the UK and across Europe for a week of sailing, cruising, and socialising in the Solent. Based at Cowes Yacht Haven, the UK's premier classic yacht regatta sees all yachts berthed in the same marina, creating a hub of activity and a gathering of friendly faces. The team in our third year supporting the regatta had a blast as always and it was brilliant to see both familiar faces and also those discovering Hattiers for the first time.
The Hattiers team happily donned their deck shoes for the pontoon party to celebrate and commiserate with crew members after a hard day's sailing, serving Egremont and Fiery Ginger Beer 'Devon Storm' cocktails aplenty until the sun went down.
The Sustainable Drinks Cabinet Goes To Cocktails In The City
Thousands of people revelled in tasting spectacular cocktails such as the Hattiers Sunset Mai Tai (a delicious hybrid of the Zombie and Mai Tai cocktails) at London's leading cocktail festival Cocktails in the City, beautifully crafted by our incredible partner bar Dover Yard.
As a venue for hosting a B Corp bar at Cocktails in the City, Dover Yard stands out as the perfect choice. Dover Yard is not just a bar; it’s a statement of sustainable luxury. Tucked away in the heart of Mayfair, this bar is a sanctuary where eco-consciousness meets five star service and every drink served is a toast to a better world.
Guests not only enjoyed stunning cocktails throughout the cocktail season from Hattiers Rum, ncNean, Avallen, Mijenta Tequila, Maison Mirabeau, The Botanist and Bruichladdich but a data driven case study was also produced at the end of the summer to illustrate the positive impact that can be created from sipping sustainably and offer a unique insight into each brand.
The 13th Annual Food Drink Devon Awards
It was a clean sweep of gold product awards as well as a sustainability pioneer award at the 13th Food Drink Devon Awards
With over 450 other individuals from the county’s finest food and drink producers, hospitality and catering businesses and speciality retailers, we celebrated in style at the esteemed awards ceremony at Sandy Park.
This year’s awards’ ceremony promoted sustainability and minimising waste. All the heart trophies presented were crafted by DCW Polymers from reformed plastic, sourced exclusively from local hospitality businesses.
Nurturing the next generation of culinary talent, students from the Michael Caines Academy at Exeter College designed, created and served the canapes during the welcome drinks and helped serve the meal throughout the evening. The menu was created and overseen by Craig Beacham head chef at Sandy Park with Matt Mason, chef director and head head chef, James Checkley, both from Winslade Manor, creating the dessert.
The Worshipful Company of Distillers Mansion House Banquet 2024
Held in what The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli referred to in his excellent and amusing speech as “This Georgian council house”, some of the Hattiers team attended the annual Distillers’ Livery Company banquet at Mansion House and it did not disappoint. Members of the Livery (including our founder Philip Everett-Lyons) and their guests were once again royally entertained, wined and dined at this prestigious and wonderful event, in an atmosphere of grandeur and civic pride.
The Egyptian Hall, with its high ceilings, glittering chandeliers, and elegant decor, provided the perfect backdrop for this formal banquet, and created a real air of historic elegance.
The first 'Rummit'
Our first (hopefully of many) "Rummit", held at Turtle Bay Restaurants Hammersmith.
United by Hattiers Founder & CEO Philip Everett-Lyons and Jack Orr-Ewing, CEO of The Westbourne Drinks Company (The Duppy Share), 18 UK rum brand owners came together to exchange industry insights, enjoy good times, and indulge in an abundance of strawberry daiquiris!
Insights:
1. Our fellow indie creators are collaborators, not competitors - the camaraderie in this industry is unlike anything we've experienced elsewhere. Everyone is supportive, curious, and genuinely happy to see each other succeed and endure in the market we're all navigating in unique ways.
2. There is an incredible variety available even from this small segment of the industry - we tasted Daniel Szor's delicious oak-aged Cotswolds Rum, the last of a limited edition... we experienced Caribbean, UK, Coconut, Hazelnut, Afro-Caribbean, white, spiced, gold, and everything in between.
